What exactly is a Pilot Paper?
When someone designs a new course/unit, or a revised syllabus for an existing course or unit, then they produce a pilot paper to go along with it. The pilot paper is intended to show the format of the exam and the way the candidates will be assessed. However, generally no-one will have actually sat the pilot paper (except while the course is still in development). So if you have a brand new unit, you might only have the pilot paper to indicate what the exam will be like. It will probably be similar in the styles of question and the levels of detail that will be in the actual exam, and the overall format, but you shouldn't think that the topics that come up are any more or less likely to be in the actual exam.It is just to get us familiar with the exam before the actual thing. Pilot papers are definitely important.
